Anyone who ever said "a place for everything and everything in its place" clearly didn't have the same kitchens that we have to deal with. It requires the outside influence of some appropriate storage bins and kitchen storage to make your kitchen work for you.

There are a number of mid-range sets that are built to last, and they will last many years if you take care of them correctly. This means cleaning them immediately after use and returning them to their block. Knives that are left dirty are prone to rust and corrosion, and they will not last long in thrown in a drawer with other knives.

They are made of molybdenum/vanadium stainless steel and razor sharp (and I mean sharp!). On top of that, the knives are both ice-tempered and resistant to rust or staining. One of the advantages of the all in one piece construction is that there is no place for bacteria to hide in the handle or the space between the blade and handle as there is in the traditional construction. Now add a limited lifetime warranty and you have a set of knives which will last for many generations. You will want to hand wash these knives just as you do any other good cutlery. Again, be careful, they are very sharp. They maintain that edge through a lot of use and don't require frequent sharpening.
